The rubber processing aids may comprise different types of materials, including linear primary alcohols with 12 to 30 carbons, alkylphenoxypolyethylene glycols with six to 15 carbons, and telomers with 2 to 4 carbons. Other examples include polyethylene glycols, polypropylene glycols, and tripropylene glycols, which have two to ten alkylene oxide units.

It contains fatty acid soaps and non-hardening synthetic resins, which promotes release to mixer rotors. Similarly, the zinc-free processing additive is used for silica-filled elastomers. Its low-melting profile makes it suitable for single-stage or multiple-stage mixing.

Long chain fatty acids
One type of synthetic lubricant for use in the manufacture of rubber is the long chain fatty acid. The fatty acid can be pure or a mixture of other compounds. As long as it contains at least nine weight percent fatty acid, the processing aid is effective. The lubricant may also contain other chemicals such as alcohols and waxes, but they do not interfere with the performance of the processing aid. The preferred form of wool grease is fatty acid at a weight ratio of 9 to 30 percent.

Soybean oil is another possible processing aid. By replacing dioctyl phthalate with soy oil, the rubber industry can reduce its carbon footprint while still increasing its plasticizing efficiency. The soybean oil fatty acid is an environmentally friendly compound that fills processing aid needs and is produced from one of the world's most abundant oil seeds. Soybean oil can be obtained cheaply and can replace many petroleum-based processing aids in the rubber industry.

Thioethers
The incorporation of thioethers into rubber compositions is a key step in the production process. They act as catalysts that reduce the amount of fatty acid in the final composition. The amount of composition that is required depends on the specific purpose of the compound, but thioethers are effective at reducing the total fatty acid content by more than 50%.

In addition to their antimicrobial activity, thioethers have other benefits in rubber processing. They can facilitate the production of rubber compounds by improving the processing efficiency of the raw materials. Generally, thioethers are mixed with carboxylic acid or a carboxylic acid, and other components such as aromatic esters, alcoholic compounds, and hydrocarbons. The omission of metal soaps means that the proportions of the additional materials in the raw material are reduced accordingly.
